Job Description

Mackay North State School is seeking a highly capable, energetic person who is passionate and takes pride in their work and the environment they work in to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for a range of day-to-day activities that will lead to the meticulous care and presentation of our school. The successful applicant will be able to work unsupervised, under the direction of the Principal and Business manager, communicate effectively and develop positive relations with all staff, students, and our community.

About Mackay North State School
It is 106 years since Mackay North State School was opened with enrolments of 68 students on 23 March 1915. The school experienced a period of growth as the North Mackay area grew and, as further schools opened, the population has moved away, leaving a smaller community. Currently the school caters for Prep to Year 6 as well as a Special Education Program and has had an enrolment of just under 400 children for many years now.

Your Role
As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of grounds and facilities to the Principal, Business Manager, or nominated delegate.

You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions, and have the independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

OO3 appointees must have possession of a Certificate III qualification or higher relevant to the tasks outlined, from a recognised institution under the Australian Qualification Framework or agreed equivalent which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education, or delegate is acceptable.

Competency at this level requires proven expertise and understanding of school facilities operations, standards, and application of suitable processes.

  • Capability to perform activities consistent with the workplace, health, and safety guidelines and procedures with regard to government facilities.
  • Undertake a range of functions that may require the practical application of high-level skills relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrated experience to analyse requirements, identify solutions, plan and coordinate cost-effective renewal projects, following documented methods and instructions.
  • Sound knowledge and compliance with regulations, codes, and specifications relevant to the role.
  • The skillset that enables the role to undertake required procedures without intensive supervision.

This is a OO2 progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the OO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the OO3 level (as per QLD Public Service Award 2015) once specific criteria have been met. Salary rate shown is reflective of OO2 to OO3 classification range.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
