A unique opportunity exists for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and adventurous primary teacher to join our small school commencing. This is a temporary full-time position commencing in August 2021 and going through to June 2022. Our preferred applicant will have the skills and experience to accommodate the learning needs of our upper primary students in a multi-age 4 to the 6-year classroom.

We are a small school catering for students in Prep to Year 6. We proudly foster a warm and caring environment, empowering students of all abilities to strive and succeed through their primary years. We have a determined teaching team of hardworking professionals who support their students in achieving their best. Multi-Age classes provide our students with opportunities to be challenged and extended in their learning.

Our students participate in a wide range of educational and sporting activities with students traveling regionally to compete in sporting events throughout Far North Queensland. We foster leadership skills with our student leadership team taking responsibility for school improvement projects, organising and facilitating a number of projects in our school community including the establishment and management of a vegetable garden and fundraising for important events.

Engagement with the local community is integral to Georgetown State School and we encourage active involvement from parents as well as family and community members. Interaction with community programs such as Little Gems Children's Centre plays an important role in our school life.

Living in the Etheridge Shire
Georgetown is a pleasant 5 hours drive west of Cairns in the Shire of Etheridge; the “Golden Heart of the Gulf”. This region is a popular tourist destination with many visitors driving along Savannah Way; the adventure drive linking Cairns to the historic pearling town of Broome in Western Australia.

There is plenty to get up to here; go fishing for sooty grunter, barramundi and red claw yabbies in the fresh headwaters of the Gilbert River, take in spectacular geological marvels including Cobbold Gorge and the Undara Lava Tubes or go fossicking for gold while exploring the rich mining history of this region. Take the scenic 90-minute drive to Einasleigh and check out the beautiful Copperfield Gorge – well worth the trip!

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
