Central Darling Shire is the largest Shire in NSW and yet has the smallest population. It covers an area about the size of the main island of Tasmania and yet has a population of less than 2,000 people. The Shire is extremely diverse with four main communities (Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs) and Central Darling Shire Council is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified Utilities Engineer.
This is a professional Civil Engineering position, assisting the Director Shire Services in the planning, design and execution of works and services associated with the Shire’s operations including water supply and treatment systems, water reticulation networks, sewerage systems, stormwater systems, waste operations and other Council activities.
To be successful in the role, you should have a Degree in Civil Engineering or other such qualification, acceptable for admission to Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. Applicants without a Degree but with extensive works management experience in the operations of Water Treatment Plants will also be considered for the position. A solid background in local government works management including estimating, programming, budget control and design (including roads, water, sewerage and waste infrastructure) is an essential requirement for this position. Experience in the supervision of staff and work, high level of competence in the use of Microsoft Office suite, Internet Explorer, HP Records Management, Autocad, Assets and GIS systems are also essential. In addition, applicants must hold a current class C driver’s licence and have a sound knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011.
