The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and fully registered Psychologist to join their team. There is one full-time permanent position available for commencement during Term 3.
SIDE’s Referral Program provides for students who have special circumstances that impact on school attendance/engagement. The Program is coordinated by SIDE’s school psychologists. SIDE’s school psychologists gather information from a number of sources to assess eligibility (the family, the student’s current school, and clinician/specialist) and are then responsible for coordinating an educational program that meets the individual needs of each student.
Our Psychologists work mainly with students who have mental health issues and work one on one with these students and their families. Our vibrant team liaise closely with our partner schools to enable a smooth transition back to school once they are able. They often work closely with students in rural and remote areas to support them in their educational program and assist with their mental/emotional welfare.
The successful applicant needs to be able to work well individually and in a tight team environment. They will possess well developed written and interpersonal communication skills and engage with interagency and cross sectoral partners to achieve desired outcomes. The complex role features case formulation and working with an interesting and diverse multicultural clientele.
SIDE is a recognised leader in distance education in Australia and models best practice in the use of both synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms of instruction. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work.
SIDE has a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities. As a Psychologist with SIDE, you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
