Mount Magnet District High School (DHS) is seeking Engagement and Participation Teachers to join their high quality regional school.

Mount Magnet DHS is seeking to establish a pool of Engagement and Participation Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2022.

Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 3, 2022.

About the role

Successful applicants will teach secondary students in a multi-age secondary engagement class, Years 7 to 10. Applicants will have personal qualities that nurture student well-being and engage students in developing skills across learning areas. Ideally the successful applicant will be able to draw upon trauma-informed practise in relevant contexts.

We are seeking teachers who are well organised and creative with the ability to build strong relationships with students, families and staff.

Experience in similar contexts or in delivering successful engagement programs would be relevant. A desire to engage with Aboriginal people as well as experience with students in engagement programs will be highly regarded.

This is a specialised role working across various years and subjects within our district high school.

The school and town are located in Badimia Country, with a number of students and staff members closely connected to and continuing language and culture.

The school has a Wajarri Language program and along with visual arts; this is important in both the school and community.

The School is part of the Murchison Network of schools comprising of Meekatharra District High School, Yulga Jinna Remote Community School, Cue Primary School, Yalgoo Primary School and Pia Wadjarri Remote Community School.

The location and community

Mount Magnet is one of the Mid West region's original gold mining towns, and the longest surviving gold mining settlement in Western Australia.

Surrounding the town are remnants of old gold mining operations, and to the north east are significant Aboriginal sites being preserved jointly by the local community and the Western Australian Museum.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
