The purpose of the Examination Development Manager role in the VCE Examinations Unit is to manage the development of VCE examinations through the effective oversight of examination panels with strict adherence to timelines. This includes contributing to the recruitment and training of examination setting panels, providing expert advice during the development of the examination papers and ensuring that security, quality and assessment policies are followed.
Examination Development Manager | On-Going/Full-Time
The person appointed to this position will be one of a team of examination development managers who play a key role in the delivery of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Each examination development manager is accountable for managing the development of a designated set of examinations, but there is also a great deal of collaborative work with other VCAA officers. Examination development managers also need excellent interpersonal skills to establish sound working relationships with dozens of people whom they engage to write and review examinations.
Applicants should possess sound knowledge and experience in examination design and VCE assessment practices. The demonstrated capacity to provide authoritative advice to examination writers and reviewers is essential. Much of the work involves the production of text to a very high standard of accuracy, so a liking for detailed meticulous work and excellent written communication skills are essential. Examination development managers need to be able to provide high-level advice on VCE assessment implementation issues.
A demonstrated capacity to manage a team that delivers outcomes within strict time limits will be critical. The VCE examination system is a complex system; successful delivery relies on excellent planning and great attention to detail. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
Because this work is so dependent on computer systems, experience and skill in working with databases and Microsoft Office applications are essential. The main software packages used on a daily basis are Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience of PowerPoint and Microsoft Project would be useful. In addition, the VCAA uses its own software systems, so an ability to learn about and maximize the usefulness of IT systems is integral to this work.
