Details: The Minister’s Creative Council (MCC) has been established to provide strategic advice to the Minister for the Arts on issues affecting Canberra’s arts community; and to provide a link between the ACT arts and creative industries sectors and the Minister. The Council is an advisory body, without legislated powers, but with the Minister’s endorsement to respectfully consult with the community and to report to the Minister on relevant current issues and strategic planning; and to recommend policy or legislative changes, or other specific action. The MCC is a group of creative people who use their unique perspective and expertise to contribute to positive discussion and practical advice on the arts in Canberra. Active participation is required of all members. The MCC has up to 12 members. Further information about the MCC can found on www.arts.act.gov.au/community-participation/Ministers-creative-council
Members are expected to participate in meeting discussions, community consultations and work projects; to advise the Secretariat when they have completed agreed actions arising from previous meetings; and to maintain links with the community. While some members may be selected due to their knowledge and experience within community organisations, they are appointed as individuals to provide advice and opinions in the best interests of the ACT community, and not to represent an organisation. Members may be asked to be available for business between meetings and out-of-session matters, including for work on subcommittees. The ACT Government has a commitment to achieving diversity on its boards and committees, to ensure membership reflects the community they serve and that the voices of people with diverse experiences are heard.
