About the Position

The Community Venues and Services branch is within the Lifestyle & Community Directorate. The branch is responsible for managing over $100million worth of contracts and has a number of high profile and high risk contracts for Tourist Parks, South Stradbroke Island, Aquatic Centres, Major Sporting Venues and Cemeteries. This role will be responsible for developing fit-for-purpose contracts that are planned and procured, with suitably developed contract management plans commensurate with the scale and risks associated with the contracts.

Key Deliverables of the Position

  • Provide pre-contract planning advice, contract evaluations or reviews, contract mobilisation, managing contract delivery through contract and commercial management, contract performance management and reporting, risk monitoring, auditing and compliance support.
  • Lead and support the contract management and administration functions to deliver high risk, high value contracts for Community Venues & Services branch.
  • Interpret and facilitate contractual and legislative requirements during the contracts lifecycle. Contracts across the disciplines of electrical, building, mechanical and general operations.
  • Coordinate internal business processes relating to contracts, interpreting contract documents, and facilitating contract payments and variations.
  • Assume Council Contracts Representative (CCR) role where required.
  • Support, drive and shape innovation and improvement in the contract management and administration functions and processes as part of the team.
  • Monitor and maintain processes to meet Council's organisational objectives.

About You

We are seeking an experienced leader with a strong character and exceptional contract management skills who is willing to learn our business, prepare to support and lead the branch, and continue to drive innovation and improvements. 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Extensive experience across contract management lifecycle, ideally in local government or across electrical, building, mechanical and general operations disciplines.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and decision making skills, with the ability to grasp complex and dynamic requirements, including legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment by establishing effective working relationships and developing team members to their full potential.
  • Excellent skills in building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders and contractors to ensure a balanced outcome, even when stakeholders' goals may be in direct conflict.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including management of competing priorities and deadlines, together with a high level of computer literacy (use of relevant business systems and processes).
  • A 'can do' person who thrives on innovatively solving problems in a complex environment.
