Welcome to Yorkeys Knob State School

Nestled in a lush, tropical setting which is bordered by our own nature reserve that backs on to the golden sands of Yorkeys Knob beach, our school is our special place in the tropical northern beaches. The spacious, beautiful grounds are the perfect setting for a caring and focussed learning environment that enables all students to achieve their full potential.

Catering for approximately 240 students from Prep to Year Six, our enrolment numbers are quite small compared to other schools in the Cairns area. This gives us the ability to provide a more personal approach to education, and allows our students the opportunity to learn and grow as individuals.

We have high expectations for every one of our students, and our schools motto “Challenge Yourself” encourages our students to achieve their very best in everything they do despite any challenges life brings.  We focus on supporting students to develop the critical attributes of creativity, resilience and independence.  Our curriculum is built around establishing a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy which we achieve through use of Explicit Instruction.  We also have a strong focus on supporting our students' creative side through providing specialist subjects with emphasis on The Arts, (Dance and Drama, Visual Art and Music) and Technologies (Coding, Robotics and Media).
