Bridge Road School is a School for Specific Purposes which caters to the needs of students with emotional and behavioral disturbances. All students have a Mental Health diagnosis in addition to other diagnoses, and the school runs an intensive intervention program to “re-engage disengaged learners.”

The school currently has an enrolment of 42 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, across 6 classes. There are plans in place for the school to grow through the addition of classes that cater to the needs of students with Autism from mid-2022.

The school operates on a cognitive behavior model, and trauma informed practices are embedded in all elements of school operations.

There is a very strong focus on building strong relationships and self-esteem of students, and effective collaborative consultation with parents and home schools is in place to help students set and reach their goals.

The school operates on a reintegration model and students are supported on days in their home schools by Bridge Road staff. The school hosts a clinic in partnership with Sydney Area health one day per week.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

Demonstrated experience in leading an educational setting catering to the needs of students with emotional and behavioral disturbances, and strong advocacy for these students to achieve their potential.

Demonstrated ability to lead the school’s focus on academic achievement, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy, through effective curriculum development and the setting and maintaining of high learning standards and expectations.

High level understanding of a K-6 setting which caters to the complex needs of students with challenging behaviors and multiple diagnoses.

Demonstrated ability to support effective integration practices through the ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders including parents, home schools, external agencies, and non-school based Department of Education personnel.

General Selection Criteria

  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2021 and also for 2022.
