Queanbeyan West Public School currently caters for the social, emotional, physical and academic learning needs of approximately 500 students in 19 mainstream, 2 Autism and 2 Multi-categorical supported learning classes. The 4 supported learning classes cater for students with complex needs such as, Autism, Mental Health and/or intellectual and physical disabilities. The school is made up of 11% ATSI and 27% LBOTE students and has a reputation for excellence in the local area. Queanbeyan West Public School provides students with an innovative and comprehensive curriculum and also provides additional opportunities through extra-curricular learning experiences. Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, 
  1. Approval to teach Special Education and / or experience teaching students with autism, mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, expressive and receptive language delays and a range of emotional and behavioural needs.
  2.  Proven strong interpersonal and communication skills to sensitively and actively engage with families and support agencies to create and deliver individualised quality teaching and learning programs for students with complex needs. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively use data driven practices to deliver high impact teaching strategies and learning programs that support student engagement and wellbeing outcomes for all students
  4. High level communication skills and the ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership and school team to facilitate whole school practices, including strategic planning, leading and monitoring initiatives and applying evaluative practices to drive continuous improvement with a focus on equity.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies


An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
