Inverell High School is a rural, comprehensive, co-educational high school with an enrolment of 495 students. A significant number of our students are from a low SES backgrounds and 24.4% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Our school provides learning environments that cater for individual student learning needs, as well as opportunities that allow all students to develop to their full potential.

We have a Support Unit including classes for mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, as well as three Multi-Categorical classes.

A strong and well-recognized culture of inclusion and achievement is supported by extensive wellbeing initiatives.

The school ensures students have a balanced, well-rounded education with access to a diverse range of academic, sporting and cultural opportunities.

There is a strong tradition of student and parent participation and the school maintains productive links with community, local businesses and organizations.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Approval to teach Mathematics 7-12 and willingness to teach Mathematics Extension I and II.
  2. Demonstrated ability to inspire, develop and lead staff at all stages of their career through professional learning and evidence-informed, reflective teaching practices to promote high quality teaching and learning.
  3. Highly developed organizational, communication and interpersonal skills which inform effective administration and management processes to support whole school systems evaluation and achievement of school strategic improvement plan targets.
  4. Demonstrated understanding and ability to genuinely engage with students, parents, staff and the wider community to build a culture of inclusion that recognizes the richness and diversity to enhance student outcomes and community engagement.
  5. Evidence of effective classroom practice that includes the ability to cater for students with a diverse range of learning needs through differentiated curriculum, classroom practice and behavior management strategies, that foster a culture of high expectations.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
