Blackett Public School has an enrolment of 255 students, including 30% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 30% of students from a non-English speaking background, predominately Pasifika.

The school is situated in Western Sydney, within the Mount Druitt Network of schools. The school has a Support Unit with three classes catering for students with a range of disabilities.

Aboriginal Education is a priority in all aspects of the curriculum. Equity funding facilitates initiatives.

Evidence informed and data driven practices are used to ensure teachers deliver high quality teaching and learning opportunities across the curriculum, Kindergarten to Year 6.

A school wide focus on trauma Informed practice creates an environment which fosters success, and supports the development of safe, respectful and responsible global citizens.

Parent and community partnerships are highly valued.

The school works closely with external agencies, who support students in a variety of ways.

Selection Criteria

  • In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff, families and the wider school community.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed Aboriginal perspectives, developing a culture of inclusion and strong partnerships that value the diversity of our school community.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support continuous improvement for all staff within the school, to build capacity and lead collaborative practice.
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience to foster whole school wellbeing programs to enhance a culture of multi-layered support for all students including those with additional learning and support needs.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies


An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
