Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and dynamic individual to join the team at Mount Gravatt State High School as Head of Department - Health and Physical Education. In this role you will lead and support teaching teams with the implementation of the Australian Curriculum and the MGH approach to pedagogy, through collaboration, alignment and precision to achieve differentiation. This role is ideal for an individual who is excited by the opportunity to embrace the school culture, build positive relationships and drive change with fellow staff, students and key stakeholders. Your Role:

As Head of Department - Health and Physical Education you will have responsibility for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Thinking strategically and innovatively in their approach to curriculum, pedagogy and staff development, and to continuous improvement and professional growth of MGH's HPE staff and educational programs
  • Implementing the Australian Curriculum Physical Education, QCAA Senior Subjects of Health and Physical Education aswell as the New QCE curriculums.
  • Facilitating management of school sport
  • Strengthening our athlete development program of excellence
  • Strengthening senior outcomes
  • Playing a lead role in the development, implementation and ongoing review of the school's explicit improvement agenda
  • Overseeing the ongoing embedding of the Australian Curriculum within the HPE department in line with ACARA's requirements with specific focus on the literacy, numeracy and cognitive demands of the curriculum
  • Building staff capability through a problem of practice approach to improvement, collaborative empowerment through a faculty based professional learning teams, coaching and mentoring
  • Encouraging a growth mindset amongst others by creating a low risk / high challenge environment that will encourage innovation and a commitment to continuous improvement.
