About the People and Culture Branch

The People and Culture branch is the facilitator of key HR activities and business relationships across the City, managing both the strategic and operational aspects of the Council’s people management activities.

Responsibilities and key accountabilities of the Payroll team

Collectively, the Payroll team:

  • Provide a high level of service, advice and response to payroll related enquiries, including interpretation of relevant industrial instruments.
  • Perform accurate and high-volume payroll related data processing including salary packaging arrangements, end to end superannuation processes, employee deductions, disbursements and backpay adjustments, within scheduled deadlines.
  • Contribute to, assist, and perform pay period and financial year processing and related reporting.
  • Monitor data integrity to ensure compliance with relevant industrial instruments, Council policies, standards and procedures.
  • Identify and contribute to appropriate record keeping and business processes to ensure compliance to Council’s statutory and reporting obligations.
  • Contribute to and maintain an active role in the development, advancement and utilisation of the corporate payroll software application and related technologies.
  • Maintain currency of relevant knowledge in industrial legislation, superannuation and PAYG taxation.

Desirable: Have you used chris21 or iChris Payroll systems for more than 12 months?
Essential: Please describe your experience in utilising your strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Essential: Please describe your experience in utilising your analytical mind set and problem-solving skills.
Desirable: Please describe your experience in utilising your good interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to provide a high level of customer service to a wide range of staff, contacts from external organisations and the wider community.
Desirable: Please describe your experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs, for example Outlook, Word and Excel.
