Welcome to Lockhart State School

Lockhart State School is a very remote Indigenous school catering for approximately 140 students from Pre-Prep to Year 12.  Our students are keen learners with considerable sporting abilities and strong cultural ties to communities across the Cape and beyond.  All of our students are EAL/D learners and are fluent in Lockhart Language which is the traditional language of the area.

At Lockhart we make a strong commitment to achieve and exceed the learning goals of all of our students especially in the areas of reading, spelling and mathematics.  Our school fosters strong connections with community and culture, embedding local culture and traditions into the curriculum by connecting Elders and other agencies in the community to ensure all students are exposed to their history, culture and languages.

About Lockhart River

Lockhart River is located on the eastern coast of the Cape York Peninsula, 11 hours' drive north of Cairns.  Here you'll find nature in all its splendour, from the pristine golden sands of Quintell Beach to the sweeping mountains of the Iron Range.  Home to approximately 600 people, the community is comprised of five coastal and inland language groups.  The term Pama Malnkana, means people of the sand beach, which gives a common identity to the people of this region.

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
