About the role

The Senior Accountant (Assets & Capital Projects) is a full time, 35 hour per week position, Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm based at the Nowra Administration Building. This position is within the City Performance group.

The successful applicant will support the Manager – Reporting & Controls with the development of strategies and policies for asset accounting activities, project accounting, regulatory requirements and reporting.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.


Reporting directly to the Manager – Reporting & Controls, the focus of this position is to:

  • To maintain a proper system of financial control over Council’s Asset Management Systems and ensure compliance with applicable accounting regulations and regulatory requirements.
  • To provide timely, quality financial information to Asset Custodians to support decision making and ensure there is an appropriate link between Council’s Asset Management Plans and the Long Term Financial Plan.
  • To provide comprehensive and professional technical asset accounting advice and support to both managers and custodians as well as driving improvements in project accounting processes.
  • Support and manage the day-to-day operations of the Asset Accounting Team functions and staff.
  • Ensure processes and protocols are in place to support the Asset Accounting Team’s compliance with all relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.

Skills & Experience

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Degree in Accounting, Business, commerce or equivalent
  • Five years experience at senior level in a comparable position
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
