James Busby High School is a diverse and inclusive co-educational comprehensive high school located in south-west Sydney with an enrolment of 630. Our setting includes a large and dynamic Special Education Unit comprising of 10 classes, with 106 enrolled students.

We celebrate our multi-cultural student body that includes 39 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as 75% of students from a language background other than English.

Our school is developing a strong focus on quality skills driven teaching, literacy and numeracy improvement, Learning Intentions and Success Criteria and ALARM to promote continuous growth and attainment for all students.

In support of this, we provide a curriculum that is rich, authentic and responsive to individual student needs. Our Learning and Support Team sustain and grow extensive support structures for students and staff in meeting the complex learning needs of our diverse student body.

We endeavour to build the capacity of all, in differentiation, in order to meet the educational requirements for each child.

Positive Behaviour for Learning and our values driven approach to student wellbeing and behaviour management underscore our philosophy.

Selection Criteria

• Approval to teach Technology Mandatory (7-8) and Food Technology.
• Approval to teach or willingness to undertake VET teacher training in Hospitality Commercial Cookery providing the qualification entry benchmark is met.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills that promote successful interactions between students, staff and parents.
• Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within the Home Economics Faculty to develop and implement inclusive, high expectations learning experiences that engage students and contribute to a positive learning culture within the school.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm full vaccination status prior to the Department of Education finalizing the appointment of the candidate and entry on duty.
