About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and enthusiastic Fire Safety Officer to join the Compliance team at Woollahra Council on a permanent full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Compliance Team Leader, you will act as Council’s expert officer with regard to National Construction Code (NCC)/Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the associated Australian Standards and responsible for Council’s Fire Safety Program.

Your duties will include the investigation of non-compliance allegations, risk auditing and the management and review of Council's Annual Fire Safety Register and measures. 

About you

You will come with prior industry experience and demonstrate a solid understanding of the relevant fire safety legislation. Your strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage a number of competing complex priorities will ensure your success in the role. You will be a high achiever with:

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Building Surveying, Fire Engineering or equivalent, with Fair Trading NSW accreditation or suitable qualifications to achieve accreditation as a Building Surveyor or Fire Safety Engineer
• Experience in the assessment of fire safety measures in a wide variety of residential and commercial buildings
• Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of the NCC/BCA and relevant fire safety legislation 
• Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication
• Demonstrated mediation and negotiation skills
• Commitment to customer service
• Computer literacy
• Current drivers licence
