About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of TAFE NSW vocational education team. Disability Teacher /Consultants require a group of casual Note Takers, Readers & Writers to support students with disabilities to access education and training by assisting with the implementation of reasonable adjustment strategies.

Support may include reading, notetaking/writing and explaining course material. It may also include assisting with organisational skills/tasks, time management, computing skills, completing practical tasks and other reasonable tasks related to supporting students’ meaningful participation in courses and educational settings.

Teacher Consultants require a cohort of suitable staff to ensure flexibility and to provide reasonable adjustment for students. The hours are varied and dependent on the number of students with a disability enrolled and the nature of their support needs.

About You

You will thrive in a small and dynamic team that inspires our students to grow and succeed in their skills training. Strong communication and relationship building skills are one of your strengths, as you assist students to participate, engage in tasks and maintain progress in theoretical learning settings.

You are confident in your ability to take comprehensive, legible, well-organised notes in a format customised to meet the specific learning needs of the student.

You will have demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities and enjoy working in a busy educational environment that supports and advocates for students.

The ideal applicant will also possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Literacy and numeracy skills at Certificate IV level or equivalent
  • Highly developed listening, reading, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to use relevant technology (e.g. laptops, iPads, a range of software applications or trade related equipment and technology)
  • Ability to summarise relevant information presented in the class
    Awareness of the needs of people with a disability undertaking vocational education and training.
