About the Position

The Senior Flood Mitigation Engineer is responsible for engineering services associated with Council’s flood mitigation infrastructure including: the City’s referable dams; rainfall, river height and maximum height gauges; waterway weirs; tidal exchange structures; Woongoolba flood mitigation scheme area, including operational and capital budget programs. 

You will take responsibility for: 

  • Providing leadership and assisting the coordinator with workflow management, mentoring junior staff, performance auditing and continuous improvement for the Lakes and Waterways team.
  • Providing specialist expert knowledge, undertaking liaison, preparing reports, procedures, policies correspondence and attending meetings on matters relating to management of the City’s referable dams, gauges, weirs, tidal control structures and the Woongoolba Flood Mitigation Scheme area.
  • Ensuring that strategic planning studies, Priority Infrastructure Plans, four and 10 year investment plans, emerging challenges and technology are aligned, deliverable and affordable to support the City’s flood mitigation objectives. 
  • Overseeing a condition assessment program for the City’s Flood mitigation infrastructure, ensuring the specifications for the condition assessment program are in accordance with best practices. Utilising condition assessment information to prioritise maintenance works and new capital works.

About You:

  • Bachelor Degree or Civil or Structural Engineering or demonstrated knowledge.
  • A can do person who thrives on innovatively solving problems in a complex environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to manage and complete projects within specified timeframes. 
  • Be able to provide guidance to others and act as a subject matter expert. 
  • Able to bring in new ideas and challenge the status quo to bring about continuous improvement.
