The Opportunity

Council are currently seeking to recruit a Principal Planning to join the Development and Compliance team. The Principal Planner will provide a high level of professional service to Council and the community with respect to the development and use of land with a focus on delivering planning projects of social and economic significance.

To be successful in this position, you should possess tertiary qualifications in planning or relevant field; extensive experience in the assessment and determination of a wide range of development applications and/or senior experience as a planning professional; experience in a customer service culture and delivery of quality service; and success in delivering complex projects, including exercising effective decision making, consultation, negotiation, networking and advocacy.

It is a requirement of this position to be a current member of the Planning Institute of Australia, or meet the criteria for membership.

Key accountabilities include

  • Undertake development assessment including assessment of highly complex development applications
  • Provide development advice including submissions to the Department of Planning for State significant projects
  • Participate in and promote an understanding of legal processes
  • Investigate unauthorised / illegal uses which includes recommendation of action
