Health Promotion Officer (Safety Planner) (8241)

• Part time (32 hours per week) from January 2020 until February 2022 (Parental Leave)
• Play a key role in supporting community safety across Boroondara
• $90,591 - $98,566 (pro rata to be applied) plus Super

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Social Planning & Research, you will contribute to the strengthening of local networks, and support partnerships to undertake a range of health promotion programs, projects and initiatives with a focus on community safety and preventative health issues.

A little bit about the role

The Health Promotion Officer (Safety Planner) will design, research, develop and implement effective community safety strategies, policies and programs around gender equity, family violence, alcohol and drug use (prescription and other drugs), social housing and a range of other issues that impact on wellbeing and safety in the City of Boroondara.

They also assist in the identification of current and future community needs, demands, expectations and aspirations as they relate to health, wellbeing and community safety.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working in the areas of community safety, gender equity and family violence, social housing, alcohol and other drugs and crime prevention.
• Demonstrated skills in the development, implementation and evaluation of community safety projects including skills in project management.
• Demonstrated skills in developing funding applications for grants.
• Demonstrated skills in building and facilitating partnerships with community stakeholders, including advisory committees.
• Proven skills in policy analysis, development, implementation and evaluation.
• Strong communication skills, including writing of reports and submissions for a range of audiences and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a political environment.

 Qualifications and Employment Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in community development, social science, and/or related human services discipline.
• Experience and detailed knowledge in social health and wellbeing including health promotion and/or community development.
• Experience in working with community members and interest groups in the development of community development initiatives.
• Experience in gender equity, community safety, crime prevention, social housing, family violence, and drug and alcohol issues.
• Experience in policy analysis, development, implementation and evaluation.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
