About the role
Reporting to the Coordinator Building Approvals, you will be required to undertake mandatory building inspections and enforcement compliance inspections (when required) on behalf of the Municipal Building Surveyor. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong understanding of the Building Act and Regulations and you will be responsible for carrying out building inspections, documenting and recording inspection results in accordance with the legislative requirements for Building Services of the City of Boroondara. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the health and safety of building occupants and the general public are protected when carrying out inspections.
This is a key role within our team that ensures safety, compliance and process is maintained with new and existing building structures.
You will have a very good knowledge of carrying out residential and commercial mandatory building inspections and a thorough understanding of the building permit process and experience in preparing/issuing inspection records, directions to fix, Certificate of Final Inspections, Occupancy Permits, Building Notices and Orders. You will also assist with a variety statutory building matters involving building enforcement and will be required to liaise with property owners/builders and complainants to resolve building compliance matters.

You will bring knowledge of current Building Regulations, Act, Codes, Standards and relevant industry practices, and have experience in preparing inspection records, directions to fix, Certificate of Final Inspections, Occupancy Permits, Building Notices and Orders.
You are tertiary qualified in Building Surveying/Building Inspection together with significant practical experience in the industry. This is supported by your current registration as a Building Practitioner by the Victorian Building Authority in the minimum category of Building Inspector - Unlimited.
You will bring strong communication skills, including writing reports, directions and submissions. Previous experience as a Building Inspector in a Municipal Building Surveyor Office or equivalent private business is desirable.
You are committed to delivering exceptional customer service, and you have a passion for continuous improvement.
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia and hold a current Victorian Driver’s License. Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check.
