About the School
We are a friendly and welcoming school community committed to quality education for all children. We are a very remote Indigenous pre-prep to Year 10 community school with approximately 210 students in the Gulf of Carpentaria situated 600km North West of Cairns. Students come from a diverse community all of whom are EAL/D learners, speaking one or more traditional languages at home.
Local amenities include a general store, primary health care centre, canteen, guest house, multi-purpose centre (with fitness equipment), camping grounds, post office and banking facilities. Kowanyama is accessible by road most of the year depending on weather, road conditions and the capability of your vehicle. Regional airlines offer regular passenger and air freight services weekdays from Cairns.
