Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a focussed and dynamic leader to join our leadership team at Sunnybank State High School as Head of Special Education Services for a temporary period from 12 September 2022 until 09 December 2022. The position will be suited to an energetic and future-focused individual who has the ability to continue to develop and support the embedding of a whole school inclusion model and influence positive student learning outcomes.

As the Head of Special Education Services, you will lead and manage the activities of students and teachers in line with the school's vision and values.

About the role 

As the Head of Special Education Services you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Achieving positive educational outcomes for our students by supporting the ongoing development of inclusion focused quality teaching and learning practices and nurturing productive relationships within the school and across the wider community.
  • Leading case management for students with disability and EAL/D learners including working with teachers, support staff and external organisations to enhance the quality of differentiation within classrooms
  • Lead the school special education unit or special education developmental unit teachers, students and stakeholders to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Are active participants in life long learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Are futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students with disability.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the unit to achieve goals.
