School Crossings Supervisors


Band 1 - $36.08 per hour (inc. 25% casual loading)

Hobsons Bay is situated on Port Phillip Bay around 10 kilometres west of central Melbourne with more than more than 20 kilometres of bay frontage, quality residential areas, a huge expanse of environmentally significant open space and a range of major industrial complexes, which contribute significantly to the economy of Victoria. These qualities make Hobsons Bay a highly sought-after residential area and tourist destination.

The opportunity

An opportunity has arisen within our Community Safety and Corporate Integrity team for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and customer service skills able to work autonomously. The position is permanent casual and involves working within a great team. The successful applicant will have a knowledge of the Road Rules to be able to operate a school crossing safely and have the relevant knowledge and experience as outlined in the attached position description.

Key responsibilities

The successful applicants will be appointed as relief School Crossing Supervisors and will be initially offered relieving work. When crossings become available for an on-going appointment, the Relief School Crossing Supervisor will be offered the opportunity to fill the existing role.

School crossings are supervised each morning and afternoon for periods of up to 1 hour, typically between 8am to 9am and between 3pm to 4pm.

Previous experience is not essential as successful applicants will receive on-the-job training. Applicants must be able to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to supervise a crossing in a way that meets the needs of both motorists and pedestrians using the crossings. The successful applicant will be able to function effectively while working alone. It is desirable that applicants are available Monday to Friday during school terms.

About you

1. Some understanding of the Victorian Road Rules.
2. An ability to communicate with school children.
3. Some experience in dealing directly with school children and school teachers.
4. Current Victorian Drivers License desirable.
5. Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check.
6. Willingness to undergo a National Police check and physical assessment.
