City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking a Senior Resource Management professional to join our Waste Services leadership team as the Post Collection – Client-Side Organics Delivery Manager.

With a continuous improvement culture, our Waste Services service unit is committed to providing waste minimisation and recycling solutions and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our waste management operations. Our Summerhill Waste Management Centre (SWMC) is pivoting from a predominantly landfill operation toward resource recovery by imbedding circular economy into future operational design and taking a co-location and precinct development approach. With this objective in mind, the team currently has several transformational projects underway.

One such project is a proposed Organics facility, capable of processing Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO). The proposed facility will be a fully enclosed aerated composting and maturation solution capable of processing 20,000TPA of FOGO with staged growth of up to 50,000TPA. As the Post Collection – Client-Side Organics Delivery Manager, you’ll report to the Manager Waste Services, and will play an integral role in delivering the proposed commercially viable Organics business. This newly created role requires consideration of key operational interfaces to ensure capital decisions do not negatively impact long term operational costs and requirements and that the ultimate products will have a market at the highest possible value. You’ll also have ownership of the ongoing project post capital delivery.

The essentials you’ll need:

• Degree in Engineering/Environment, Operations/Facility Management, Logistics, Business/Commerce or similar.
• Extensive experience at a Senior level in both capital and operational delivery of an organics (or a similar business) operations.
• Extensive business and market experience at a Senior level in managing an organics (or a similar business) operation with profit and loss accountability.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly understand a complex project/business opportunity and develop an appropriate program to successfully develop the opportunity.
• Detailed understanding and practice in developing delivery models, including capital structures, operating models, resource planning and engagement, procurement and industrial relations.
• Significant commercial acumen and the ability to see, understand and deliver value.
• Developed Integrated Management System experience with a detailed understanding of due diligence and risk based continual improvement.
• High level people management, strategic procurement, communication, negotiation, computer literacy, financial and safety management skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels within the private and public sectors.
• Ability to work within tight timelines, engaging multiple streams of work with a focus on key issues.
• Class C Driver’s Licence.

Other valuable skills you may have:

• Post graduate qualifications in Project Management, Finance or similar.
• Broad understanding of the organics/compost/waste industry.
• Broad understanding of local government operations.
• Experience creating documentation and applying for Federal and State grants for major infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience coordinating and administering tender / contract documentation, for the on-ground delivery of major capital and renewal infrastructure projects.
