City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking a skilled Electrical Projects Coordinator to join our Property & Facilities team, coordinating the efficient and timely delivery of maintenance and repair projects for electrical assets across the Newcastle LGA, while also pursuing initiatives to improve the energy efficiency of our infrastructure.

As the successful candidate you’ll have solid experience in electrical project management and collaborative work practices and will be responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, professional and value for money electrical service, including the innovative design, delivery of construction, maintenance, repair, enhancement and preservation of the electrical/communication assets of Council to comply with regulatory safety standards.

Additionally, you’ll implement electrical and communication projects from inception through to completion, providing leadership, direction and control of both internal and external resources, ensuring that the electrical projects within the Building and Structures, Major Projects and Energy Management programs are completed on time, within budget and to agreed standards.

The essentials you’ll need:

• Tertiary qualifications in Electrotechnology Discipline or qualified to be licensed as an electrician and have extensive experience in the electrical, or associated, industry.
• Solid knowledge and experience in the design, documenting, estimating and implementation of electrical projects.
• Solid experience in project management and collaborative work practices in a position accountable for timely and cost-effective delivery of outcomes.
• Solid experience in programmed maintenance systems, and the maintenance and repair of a broad range of electrical and communication systems including out of hours response to incidences of vandalism and breakdown.
• Ability to work in a team environment and prioritise tasks to meet agreed deadlines within a high workflow work environment.
• Solid working knowledge of AS-3000 Wiring Rules, NSW Service and Installation Rules, Energy Authority Local Service Rules and the Australian Communications Authority Customer Service Installation Rules.
• A high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to conduct meetings. Also, high level of computer literacy in MS Office suite.
• Ability to interact with all levels of staff, suppliers and customers, and to utilise influencing and negotiation skills to ensure the best possible outcome for Council.
• Current Class C Manual Driver’s License and NSW WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Other valuable skills you may have:

• Well-developed analytical, research, workplace knowledge and problem-solving skills of this discipline, and demonstrate initiative in identifying and resolving work problems independently over a period of time.
• Advanced skills in the use of computer applications relevant to project management activities (e.g. Microsoft Project, Excel).
• Moderate Working knowledge of the procurement regulations of the Local Government Act.
• Moderate knowledge and interest of leading-edge technology, energy management strategies, and the national and international energy and climate change industry.
