About the Position

The Senior Assessment Engineer position in Water and Waste is a key part of the Development Services Team which manages the assessment of development applications.

The Senior Assessment Engineer is primarily responsible for reviewing and authorising internal referral memos in accordance with the Planning Act 2016 and deciding Connection Applications in accordance with the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009. Water and Waste is an internal referral involved in the assessment of development applications and provides advice on water supply, sewerage and solid waste management. The team also supervises the construction of developer contributed water supply and sewerage assets including trunk infrastructure.

The following list of responsibilities apply to this position.

• Coach Assessment Engineers through assessment of complex ROL, MCU and OPW applications such as applications involving; significant trunk infrastructure works, infrastructure agreements and ministerial designations
• Assist with resolving construction issues and work with Assessment Engineers and Construction Supervisors to ensure all site inspections are undertaken
• Review plan sealing applications and authorise on behalf of DS
• Mentor Assessment Engineers to ensure they complete their work to a high standard and that timeframes (both legislated and internal) are met
• Train and upskill Assessment Engineers to provide an exceptional customer experience.

About You

If you possess the following qualifications or equivalent knowledge, you are encouraged to apply for this interesting and challenging position:

• Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent knowledge
• Developed knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 and other relevant legislation
• Competency in written and verbal communication
• Valid Australian Driver Licence
  White Card.

Working in development assessment is challenging and requires compliance with strict legislative timeframes and assessment rules. To be effective in this position, you will need to be a strong delegator and be able to manage changing priorities. You will also be proficient at influencing others and making complex engineering decisions in a timely manner.
