LOCATION PROFILE
The Cairns and Coastal geographic area encompasses the town of Babinda in the south to trendy seaside suburb Trinity Beach in the north, Yarrabah to the east of the Cairns CBD and up to Kuranda in the north-west. Driving around town is a breeze, with a daily commute of less than 30minutes return for most people, the longest distance you'll travel is just 78km from one side of outer Cairns to the other!
This location is a popular destination for tourists, families and those seeking a change in pace without sacrificing access to all the mod cons of city living. Weekend adventures are right on your doorstep so get out and explore!
Housing is very affordable with the median house price in Cairns sitting at around $432,000, and the average weekly rent for a house is around $420p/wk.
REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
All Queensland State Schools are allocated a transfer rating which is determined by the remoteness or distance of the location from a major city and services. While the base salary range for teachers is the same across the state; rural, remote and even regional locations provide additional financial benefits and incentives that are above and beyond the base salary.
Schools in the Cairns and coastal area are transfer rating 2 locations, with the exception of Yarrabah which is a transfer rating 5 location. Yarrabah attracts locality allowance and additional remote incentives on top of your base salary.
If you are an experienced teacher, you can apply to have prior teaching service recognised for salary classification and if applicable your service and leave records recognised in line with the Public Service Directive.
