As an integral member of the Executive Management Group (EMG) the Director Development Services will be key to the successfully implementation of Council’s strategic plan for Development Services in the Shire of Broome. This will be achieved through the effective management and delivery of services and education to the community regarding Planning, Building, Environmental Health Emergency and Ranger Services

About you:

We are looking for an experienced leader with solid knowledge of Planning, Building, Environmental Health Emergency and Ranger Services within the Local Government Sector. With well developed managerial, planning, organisational and communication skills, you will be well placed to lead innovatively and through effective human and financial resources in a results-oriented environment.

The Shire of Broome offers attractive remuneration including superannuation benefits, professional development, and salary sacrifice options. The successful applicant will receive the following:

• Base salary between $160k to $170k (based on experience)
• Housing and location allowances
• Relocation
• Salary packaging of rent
• 5 weeks of annual leave per year + 4 days executive leave
• Matched Superannuation scheme up to 6%
• 4WD vehicle with un-restricted private usage

Key Selection Criteria

Essential skills, knowledge & Experience

• At least five years of Senior management experience.
• A proven capacity to deal with complex Development Services issues including the formulation of appropriate action strategies and to provide high level advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Council.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills together with demonstrated advocacy and negotiation skills.
• Proven ability to analyse, integrate, articulate and contribute to policy development and manage effective change management initiatives.
• A proven ability to contribute effectively to the strategic direction of a diverse organisation.
• Well developed leadership, managerial, planning, organisational and communication skills with the capacity to lead innovatively and manage the effective use and allocation of human and financial resources in a results-oriented environment.
• A demonstrated understanding of the principles of equal opportunity, occupational health and safety and other relevant legislation, and the willingness and capacity to implement relevant plans, policies and programs. Current unrestricted ‘C’ class national driver's license

Essential Qualifications and/or Training

• A bachelor’s degree in urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Health, Building, Community and or related area.
• Current unrestricted national ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
• Police Clearance - valid within last three month

Desirable

• Previous Experience within a similar role within Local Government
• Possession of, or progress towards, a post Graduate Qualification in Management.
