Bob Hawke College is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2022.
The suitable applicants will, under teacher direction, assist in the implementation of specialised education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy and medical plans. They will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers, digital technologies and explicit direct instruction with individual students or groups. As required, they will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.
The suitable applicants will have a proactive, positive approach to the role and will be able to work well autonomously as well as part of a team. The suitable applicants will support effective communication between the teacher or therapist and student. In collaboration with the teacher, they will provide feedback about student progress with parents and caregivers. Other tasks required may include assembling resources and administrative documents; managing classroom resources or the storerooms by maintaining and updating inventory lists, monitoring stock levels and requirements, and submitting requisitions to the teacher for approval. They will also be expected to ensure the safe and hygienic storage and handling of foodstuffs and food preparation utensils.
